This is actually a generic problem, and is not specific to Domino or sendmail. If there is a single MTA that internal users connect to, MTA1, say, and a user has some finger trouble and sends an incorrectly addressed message*, then MTA1 will send a NDR back to the user to say that it was unable to deliver the message. Hopefully, the user learns to type correctly ;-) However, if there is one MTA [MTA1, say] for the users to connect to, and that MTA relays its outgoing mail via another MTA [MTA2] (which might or might not have ASSP in the path), then if an internal user has finger trouble again, then generally speaking, MTA2 has no way to send the NDR back to the original user on MTA1. How do others deal with this? Think IMail / hMailServer / SmarterMail / IIS SMTPsvc. * With one customer of mine, the most common problem is that they can't spell their own domain name - hundreds a day!
