I came to ASSP from a challenge-based system.
I thought (at first) the challenge-based system was
really a great idea - it had white lists and black lists
and anyone I sent an email to got into the white list
automatically.

However, I now agree that the "challenge" becomes just
as much a spam email as the original spam. And you
send 1-for-1 challenge spam to real spam. This generates
2x the mail traffic, not counting the bounces you get
because you sent to non-existing email addresses, etc.

I've set up ASSP (after needing a little help from this
list) and haven't had to touch it at all.
By the way, the best spam blocking feature in ASSP (IMHO)
is the "delaying" or "grey-listing" feature.

If you still want a challenge-based system, look at
Rhinosoft.com's Zaep. But I think that ASSP is a
better solution across the board.

What you're talking about is a challenge/response system and is a very bad
idea.
I hope it never becomes a part of ASSP.
1) It is not understood by most users.
2) Those that do understand it tend to be annoyed by it.
3) It will create backscatter since many SPAM messages have spoofed FROM:
addresses.
4) It will block many automated emails - like from a listserve - since they
can't respond to the 'challenge'.
