This isn't about ASSP but when I set up ASSP a month ago, people on here helped
a lot with my configuration and mail server.
Here I am, running into yet another problem - this time on a new server though.
Recently I bought a virtual dedicated server from GoDaddy. It was in order to
host one of my clients websites. The client had experienced problems with
their current host and wanted to switch to use me. However previously I had
used shared hosting accounts for my client and I've always wanted to
consolidate them into a single server that I manage. So I thought I'd give it
a go.
Everything went well, I established MX records that point to the client's old
mail server (as they are sticking with their old provider for mail and going to
me for web). I changed the nameserver entries at the domain registrar to point
at my server and hours later had problems. All mail being sent to the domain
was being rejected with the following message:
Delivery to the following recipient failed permanently:
<username>@quantumtechnology.com.au
Technical details of permanent failure:
PERM_FAILURE: SMTP Error (state 13): 550-exprod8mx1.postini.com (psmtp.com)
[64.18.3.101] is currently not permitted
550-to relay through this server. Perhaps you have not logged into the pop/imap
550-server in the last 30 minutes or do not have SMTP Authentication turned on
550 in your email client.
After looking through the possible points of failure I can't conclude on any
particular point. The following are the details:
Hostname of email: quantumtechnology.com.au
Domain name of my vitual dedicated server: yourtechsolution.info
DNS:
ns1.yourtechsolution.info
ns2.yourtechsolution.info
MX records:
mail.yourtechsolution.info (Priority 1)
mx2.yourtechsolution.info (Priority 2)
mx3.yourtechsolution.info (Priority 3)
mx4.yourtechsolution.info (Priority 4)
A records:
mail.yourtechsolution.info -> 64.18.7.10
mx2.yourtechsolution.info -> 64.18.7.11
mx3.yourtechsolution.info -> 64.18.7.13
mx4.yourtechsolution.info -> 64.18.7.14
The IPs listed above are those that matched the MX entries that were in the old
nameserver the site was hosted at. I don't have any say over those servers.
I've tried everything I could think of. If you try to telnet into the mail
servers it doesn't work. If you ping it you get the IP but that is it.
So, my biggest question, is this something with my server or theirs? Any
solution or things to look into?
Also, just a note, if you look at the current quantumtechnology.com.au domain
you'll note that it isn't pointing to the places I list above. This is because
I couldn't afford to have the company's mail down any longer. However I worked
out I can still test it by setting my computer's Default DNS to the IP of the
ns1.yourtechsolution.info server. If you have time to play, feel free to do
that.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Seth
