Try the following:

upgrade to assp 2.4.5 build 15229
enable 'enable8BITMIME'

notice: it is not recommended to use the 8BITMIME SMTP extension with assp 
- disable it on the servers and clients instead

http://sourceforge.net/projects/assp/files/griplist/griplist.conf/stats/map
will show you the countries where assp is used - most of them are using 
more than the ASCII charset

I'm using CPanel/Exim.

When I config my smtp on thurbird pointing directly to Exim, my emails 
works normally, but, when I set to ASSP, the problems with characteres 
came back. This is very strange. So I deduce that the problem is on 
ASSP. And yes, I don't know how, but I set manually on assp.cfg and works.
