I am all for acquiring clients and keeping them. Not redistributing
them among "Approved" (political discrimination possible, heck maybe I
will not be approved for starting this thread) vendors.
Well I guess we are all in luck since Asterisk is *still* somewhat
OpenSource.
Just have to change the BuyNOW link in source to send them to my website
or even initiate a phone call to sales. Maybe modifying the code and
distributing it on torrents, P2P, Ebay CDs, and Pre-installed systems on
Ebay could turn a nice little residual income.
It would have been really "cool" good faith gesture if there was a
master login to the system which would have allowed an installer to
override the NetxUSA link with one of their own.
Now a patch is in order I guess. I would urge anyone installing
Asterisk systems to modify the code for the link or avoid AsteriskNow
altogether.
Anyways, I am seeing a trend start to emerge that I think BKW (Next!)
and some others saw a while ago.
Thanks,
Steve

I still think this is a great space. Just remember gang, the key to
success is acquiring clients. At the end of the day, they are funding
the whole chain. If we all build strong presence, aggressive sales
and marketing and excellent post sale support, clients will never know
who asterisk, NetxUSA and Digium are. And remember this, for the
last 25 years, there have been at least 100 PBX offerings in the
marketplace. And many companies have made Lot's of money
selling/reselling all of them. these guys need the channel or else
they have to hire a million field engineers and support techs. Just
remember, we could all defect back to the 800 pound gorilla and leave
Asterisk and Digium to deal with it all with direct sales. And trust
me, their investors will not like that at all. if you are a VAR, you
have more power than you think. A wise old man once told me "He who
controls the customer controls the deal".

NetxUSA is a wholesaler (at least they used to be) and would only sell
to businesses. I was approved by them but wound up using ABP instead,
prices were sometimes better at one place or another, but I prefer to
build a strong relationship with a vendor rather than splitting
vendors
over a few bucks.
Anyways, that is not at all the way they make it sound. I would like
some clarification on this. If I sell and install and AsteriskNow
system, I want to retain that customer for support, upgrades, and
MACs.
If this jeopardizes that relationship, then it is a raw deal.

Steve
