I have exactly the same symptoms with app_festival and I suspect that send_waveform_to_channel routine in app_festival.c doesn't work correctly.
Festival works correctly since it sends wave file to asterisk, which saves it in cache. If I strip app_festival header in that file I can play it. The problem lies in playback of this wave to channel. Ant ideas?
