Don't worry about the chan_zap.so file.  It should be there
automatically.  
Do a lsmod after you modprobe.  What do you see?

cat /proc/interrupts?

After you do the modprobe, did you perform a ztcfg -vvvv?

This should show the channels? (from config in /etc/zaptel.conf)

Try running zttcfg.  What do you see?

After you do the ztcfg, try starting asterisk with asterisk -vvvvvvgc

Do you see any errors?
