Iīm using Hughes Telecom services. His "satellite footprint" unfortunatelly ,
donīt cover your area. I have sucess using other providers.
My contract allows me a downstream conn ( 512kbps/s ) and upstream (
100kbps/s).
I donīt know exacly to say why IAX2 over satellite is better than SIP.
I only have made " some tests " and i had a better conversation Using IAX.

I'm in Guatemala, and I know some people on satellite would be overjoyed to find a working VoIP solution. Unfortunately, it's mainly DirecWay, and they really suck (750ms seems to be on the low end of response times :().

Iīd like to annouce and share my results on using IAX2 over a satellite conn. here in Brazil. Iīm using IAX2/G.729 and works very well except the latency on my link ( =~750ms ). "Downstream" conversation is perfect , the "Upstream" works fine but i " feel" some long delays. I donīt have any kind of echo :) I was using SIP/G.729 and i didnīt have problems ... but i have to say ... that IAX2 is better in this case.
