The second box is at home running PPPoE to the net.

The first box is still running SVN trunk from last week and running SVN's
1.2 on the second box only solves the problem.

I'm not sure what's transmitted differently, but whatever it is it works
with 1.2 vs. SVN.  I'll have to try setting up a box on the same segment as
the main box to see if it makes a difference.
