Preliminary talks are looking good to get us a venue at VON, which would mean

Cool!
I think we should likely do a brief introduction to asterisk, and more
importantly in my mind, explain why we think open source telephony is good for
the ecosystem, before launching into John Van Ostrands's AGI talk.
If this is going to be open to all VON attendees, how big a room can we
get? :-)
Maybe 1/2 hour overview on * followed by a short panel (3-4 speakers at
5-10 mins each on "What * has meant to me" - how you've used the system,
how it being open source helped (portability? code mods?), neat stuff you've
done that you couldn't do (at all, or affordably) with proprietary
stuff? This would use
an hour of time but would convey the impression that there's a large
community
at play here and give just a bit of the flavor of what * is good for),
before getting
into John's more technical talk.
So your lineup is: 1 moderator, 1 half-hour presenter, (say) 3
panelists, and John.
Having this many ppl at the front table is also good for conveying the
community idea.
Being a one-hour slot may work well for scheduling too - e.g., if people
know that
the overview is at (say) 6:30 and the AGI talk at 7:30, they can plan to
attend
one or the other or both as appropriate.
