Hello Shidan:

With regards to Simon Ditner's post, his enthusiasm is valid & I share it with
him :). His quotes:
There are some costs, the only one I think we'd really like is power; we
could bring the other stuff ourselves:

  - 800Watt 120v service (aprox 6 am) (if ordered by Apr3) $103
  - Draped table 6' $68
  - carpet 10x10 $134
It appears there is no doubt to promote TAUG further, some sort of financial
contribution is required. So the time has come! With regards to Voluntary
Dues, it is a suggestion, that the sole founders like yourself and others
active in providing information sessions and event organizers need to discuss.

My two cents, where a lot of people (at least 30) are attending on a regular
basis - all meetings of TAUG... warrants to get things more formalized - for
the benefit of TAUG & others interested in TAUG. The group has grown from a
small group to 160 plus. I see no harm but great benefit to the TAUG entity,
where you have willing donors.

The reason in my opinion we need "voluntary dues" -- from people like myself
and others willing to support financially - is quite simple. That is to
support TAUG where expenses are involved, to allow TAUG a presence / booth.

Having said this, I'm ready to assist in ways I can... regardless of an
official NPO or not. And yes, the official status of an NPO does have certain
responsibilities, obligations and dedication. That I think is a discussion to
be discussed further.

But for now, I'm game... to help support Simon's enthusiasm!

Cheers,
Reza.

I think there are a lot of considerations here and a lot of things that must
be done before we can reasonably consider this. Personally I think money, if
collected should be done on a case by case basis and certainly nothing formal
because as John has pointed out it will be a serious chore the accounting and
responsibilities. Right now the Taug is very rich and active because of all
the people involved in the lively discussions, we really have to weigh in how
voluntary dues would help and what we really need them for. So I think when and
if the time comes that we as a group really need money to do something (so far
we haven't needed any money and have been very successful in our goals) then we
should consider it then. For the time being lets do it case by case. My two
cents worth.
