Asterisk doesn't really have a concept of trunks - everything is represented by channels, whether sets or trunks. As such, setting up a sip channel can be as simple as naming it in sip.conf (which you do by defining it in a heading framed in square brackets), giving it a context in which to arrive, and possibly providing a password. There are many other settings that can be defined, but keep it simple for lab work is my advice. Something like this should do: [metaswitch] type=friend password=metaswitch context=incoming
The key is to make sure you have an [incoming] context in your extensions.conf that'll handle this. Probably just define the "s" exten (which may already be there). The URI that your metaswitch would want to address would be HYPERLINK "mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]"[EMAIL PROTECTED] (assuming the hostname of your Asterisk is "asterisk-system"). In your Metaswitch you just need to mess around until you find a combination that gets you through. Obviously, the username and password are both "metaswitch", so you eliminate confusion as to what should go where - doesn't matter, it's all the same. Once it's up and running you can experiment with some of the more advanced features, but get a basic connection going first so you have a known-good config to go back to. Have fun!
