There are hardware based IAX phones in the market, and also in the Canadian
market. Our major suppliers are from China. I would not say they are as
robust, tough and durable as the Aastra, Polycom or Linksys phones... **but
they work** - and expect a reboot a day. We've implemented a number if IAX
phones in the Middle East where we have recently deployed some satellite
offices.

Not going to name the countries here for obvious reasons -- but after
implementing the IAX phones on a quality internet connection (not even
broadband as per Canadian standards) - the G729 Codec on IAX has been
working flawlessly and our long distance bill from $1.50 per minute has
reduced down to zero.

We are not in the buy/sell business (at least not yet)... but we can get
you the IAX phones brand new, which is based on a PA1688 chipset for $80+tax
with a shipping and handling charge of $15 flat.

Best,
Reza.

The idea of extensions at home has also been very popular at my office
ever since I introduced the idea. I have tried using the iax soft phones
but people simply do not enjoy talking into a computer.
Given how complicated it is to deal with nat on sip remote extensions,
why are there not hundreds of iax hard phones available?
Can anybody suggest a decent iax hard phone and a Canadian source?
Julian.

You could try IAXLITE (the travel version)
This has a config file that can be pre-configured
