NI-2 is far from ubiquitous. In Manitoba MTS uses only NI-1.

Outside of Manitoba MTS uses NI-2. This is because Allstream used NI-2
so when MTS bought Allstream they inherited NI-2 equipment. However, as
part of the deal the CRTC required MTS to effectively shutdown Allstream
in Manitoba and migrate everyone to the MTS platform.

So for example we were an Allstream customer running on NI-2 and were
forced to downgrade to NI-1 and lost functionality because of it.

Much the same thing applies to Bell. Likely in any ILEC areas of Bell
they are still NI-1, but any customers attached to equipment of
companies (such as Global Telecom) that Bell bought is probably NI-2.

This certainly applies to what used to be called "Bell West" which is
everything Manitoba west. And I'd bet that out east, the old Aliant
stuff is NI-1.
