Ok then, here is something you might find interesting. I needed a way to add volume control so when the mother-in-law called I could crank up the outbound volume. I decided to detect her caller id, and then bridge her call into a conference. This gave me that ability to raise or lower volume using the conference features. On outgoing calls to her I set up a speeddial number that would accomplish the same. Maybe not the best solution but it worked. There may be a glitch in the dial command option though because if I chose to squelch the join conference message then sometimes the audio would be missing when the call was bridged.

I should also clarify my request for recipe ideas:

I would like to show off the power of the dialplan, and Asterisk, in
such a way that you don't need to rely on external scripts to perform
some of the powerful functions Asterisk can accomplish. Not to say
that using external scripts is forbidden, but I think a lot of very
neat things can be done directly in dialplan logic, and my hope is to
show off enough different features using strictly dialplan that it
gets some peoples gears running in their head, thereby allowing them
to solve problems using dialplans where possible.

Thanks so much for the ideas so far everyone! Really enjoying them so
far. Any idea's that I thought would make sense for the book I've put
into my wiki with a little note of who suggested the idea.

Thanks!
Leif.
