How about different information service lookups. Right now, got scripts running to poll my Virgin Phone accounts, LesNet etc and post to Aastra phone at my office desk. Can see balance on phone. Also, check email if message there. A light on the phone would be really handy..something to check a pop account if message exists. Monitor (presence) if 1. phones online - ie, mobile staff...know when they log in with their soft phone...see it on my console...be able to call knowing they're there. Trunk monitor - if a trunk goes down, internet outage, etc...unregistered sip lines...indicator on phone.
In my case, all indicators would be to the led's on the Aastra sets, though I'm certain any type of messaging to the LCD would be useful Multiple voicemail monitor with LED such that you know if house, office or help desk (vs personal) vm have message waiting. Got start on some of these scripts (www.davebour.com, professional ->Asterisk section). I want to do things that are everyday kinds of things that are useful for both people new to Asterisk, and would like to throw in some more complex recipes for people in the intermediate to advanced range. I know one of the ideas Jim van Meggelen had previously was a voicemail alternative that lived entirely in dialplan. I might revisit that now that 1.6 is into release candidate mode as there will be a lot of features useful in making that a reality. Some of the problem I think I'm having is coming up with things that appear to be *too* simple to me, but are in actual fact quite useful for people new to Asterisk. I'd like to be able to use it as a reference to FAQ's.
