I can help. You'll need: 1. A modem. I prefer the US Robotics external modems. they have DIP switches to set all the main settings. 2. mgetty+sendfax. This is the software that listens to the modem, answers and either presents a login or starts a PPP sessions. It can also set up the modem if you want to set the modem settings electronically. 3. uucp is handy for manually talking to the modem ad-hoc. use "cu -l ttyS0 -s 57600" to talk to the modem and "<enter> ~ . <enter>" to exit. 4. ppp is what gives you the network connection. 5. Optionally, you can use rz and sz for sending files over the modem without PPP. If you really want to go this way let me know and I'll give you the exact settings that work for me. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: [email protected] For additional commands, e-mail: [email protected]
