I've used the older nokia e61 and SIP works great. Configuration is a nightmare. But once it's setup, it works like a regular extension. When it's in range it connects to wifi, registers and can make/receive calls.

The iPhone doesn't allow background processes - so you can't receive calls unless you are running the SIP/IAX client app. So, it would be more for outgoing calls only. (You might be able to jailbreak it to run background apps, but i haven't done this.)

Nokia E71 is the first one on the list for me. It has a native SIP client and holds the battery quite well. We had a conversation about this earlier:

Hi all,

Can any of you share experiences and/or recommend a brand/model of cell
phone that does wifi and has, or can have, installed, a SIP client?

Could be either gsm (preferred) or cdma.
thanks in advance for your suggestions,
