In response to my own email - I managed to upgrade this and get things working. Initial config and upgrade from TFTP was a pain, but the phone seems to work.
This is the 1st Cisco phone I've bought for testing - but I think I'm going to stick to Aastra, Linksys and certain versions of the Polycom.
