I have successfully installed Ubuntu on my Revo 1600 using a USB stick (
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Installation/FromUSBStick ). This is not
the first time I install Ubuntu from a USB stick, 'cause the install is much
faster that way.

Bruce - have you given http://iso2usb.sourceforge.net/ a try? This seems to
be exactly what you need, and I'd be interested to know whether it works or
not.
