Hi Liviu,

I posted a quick review of the Siemens Gigaset A580 to the Biz list back in September,
http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/msg02042.html

Our Gigaset is in use at home and we have one handset but will add a couple more when I get round to it. The base unit is small and separate from the handset base/charger so it can be tucked away with the Asterisk server or in a central spot for radio coverage. Highly recommend upgraded handsets, the ones that have customizable ringtones and perhaps Bluetooth. No problems with stability, excellent sound quality but the ringtones are driving me nuts.

A feature that separates it from the consumer DECT phones that are becoming popular is support for the GAP interoperability spec. If I could just find another vendor that supports GAP. :-{

I expect it would work in the environment you describe below. You can transfer calls between Gigaset handsets natively (+ intercom) or have Asterisk take care of that. The A580 supports multiple SIP accounts plus a POTS line. Make the aSIP line the default outbound and then you have fallback to the POTS in event of loss of IP connectivity or Asterisk failure (of course, that would NEVER happen!)

regards,

Drew

Hello,

I am looking for some advice on DECT IP phones.
The company I work for is planning to swtich the current PBX to an
Asterisk based PBX and IP phones. I don't like the idea of ATA+regular
phone for an office environment and we need cordless phones, so I am
looking at one of these:
- Aastra MBU 400 (maybe with some additional MBU 420d)
- Panasonic KX-TGP500 (again, maybe with some extra KX-TPA50)
- Snom M3 or M9
- Siemens Gigaset A580 or SL785
- (if you have good experience with any other brand/model, please add
to the list)
Do you have experience with any of these in a business environment ?
For example one important feature for our users is to be able to
easily transfer a call to another extension, or conference another
extension or external number.
Also, some of them allow multiple SIP registrations and multiple
handsets connected to one base. In this scenario, it would be nice if
I could have 2-4 handsets/extensions sharing the same base since it
would mean less network wiring, but do you know if the
conference/transfer features would still work ?

Thanks,
Liviu
