Hi Ian, IMHO ---- there are a lot of moving parts to these distros. "Like nailing jelly to a wall" Normally, you can version up asterisk 1.6 to 1.8 by downloading and compiling in situ You can also upgrade freepbx by using the module upgrade in Freepbx however if you Backup using Freepbx 2.6 and restore to Freepbx 2.9 you can loose some information due to new features etc. As an example in FreePBX 2.8 they added Outbound Trunk Selection by Extension + dialed digits this did not port across so had to be add manually (just a few minutes work) otherwise the restore works well. If you are going to do it this way then IMHO I would upgrade you current system to Freepbx 2.9 before you make a backup then restore on to another box at that level. Then download and compile asterisk 1.8. Unless you are married to AsteriskNow take a look at PBX in a FLASH (PIAF) "bronze" this does all the hard work. PS: In Freepbx 1.8 you can now schedule a Backup and send it via FTP or Email ( I do this nightly)
