O.k., so it turns out you were right - I just had to make a subtle
adjustment. I was thinking of 10-digit dialing and including the "1+"
(which I guess really makes it 11 digit dialing). As it turns out if I
dial it as 10 digits but OMIT the 1, it works for local numbers.

Thanks for all the suggestions!

Yes. We're in Hawaii and it's all 808 area code. But if you dial the
808 it tries to connect to a neighbor island and not the local island.
So for instance if I dial 782-6306 on a regular phone it rings my
office. But if I dial 1-808-782-6306 it tries to call that number on a
neighbor island (doesn't exist) so I get an "Error 51" from the telco
which is basically a "You tried to reach a number that doesn't exist".

So I have to 7-digit dial local numbers. And I have to 10-digit dial
other islands, even though it's the same area code.

yes, 1NPA is 1, then area code.

Are you saying your telco won't connect you based on your complete
number if you are in the local area? That seems strange.

1NPA is the area code? (Sorry if that's a stupid question; I'm a newbie

It won't work for me to 10 digit dial (i.e. 18085551212) because the way
our area code is split if you dial the area code the telco tries to
connect you to a neighbor island, rather than the local island.

When I try to 7 digit dial I get "Cause: Invalid number format (28)" in
the PRI Debug. I wonder if I have something misconfigured in the
CHAN_DAHDI.CONF file?

I've actually seen that before on an XO ISDN-PRI. I fixed it by having
asterisk add the 1NPA to the front (i.e. dial(dahdi/g1/1313${EXTEN}) )

It wasn't an elegant solution but it worked. For some reason the PRI
didn't like the 7 digit dialing.

I posted this to AsteriskUsers but then I noticed that there is a
specific AsteriskNow list and perhaps this message is more appropriate
here. My apologies if you already saw it on the other list....

***********

AsteriskNOW 1.4.26.2 with a Digium TE205P connected to an ISDN PRI
(single span). I'm sure I just have something goofed up in the
dialplans? I have a bunch of Polycom 331 IP phones connecting to the
server. I can dial the other extensions in the system fine and I can
dial long distance outgoing but cannot seem to get it to dial local (7
digit) calls.

I see this in the CLI:

-- Executing [...@macro-dialout-trunk:19] Dial("SIP/801-09b6e498",
"DAHDI/g1/5551212|300|") in new stack
-- Requested transfer capability: 0x00 - SPEECH
-- Called g1/5551212
-- Channel 0/1, span 1 got hangup, cause 28
-- Hungup 'DAHDI/1-1'
== Everyone is busy/congested at this time (1:0/0/1)
-- Executing [...@macro-dialout-trunk:20] Goto("SIP/801-09b6e498",
"s-CHANUNAVAIL|1") in new stack
-- Goto (macro-dialout-trunk,s-CHANUNAVAIL,1)
-- Executing [s-chanunav...@macro-dialout-trunk:1]
GotoIf("SIP/801-09b6e498", "1?noreport") in new stack
-- Goto (macro-dialout-trunk,s-CHANUNAVAIL,3)
-- Executing [s-chanunav...@macro-dialout-trunk:3]
NoOp("SIP/801-09b6e498", "TRUNK Dial failed due to CHANUNAVAIL
(hangupcause: 2 - failing through to other trunks") in new stack

Also when I check the PRI DEBUG I see an Error 28 which indicates an
invalid number format. But I'm just sending 5551212, which should be
o.k.

I'm a newbie at this...any suggestions welcomed.
