Just to finish the thread: it's up and running. I just wish it
hadn't been such a painful process. I didn't have this trouble
when I installed 1.4 or 1.6.
It appears that attempting to log in to the GUI with an incorrect
password causes it to fall off the LAN for a (long) while. I
don't know whether this is a malfunction or a deliberate attempt
to repel what it thinks is an attack.
