I successfully installed the Cepstral 4.01 distribution on AstLinux.  I placed it in my opt partition and it works from the command line very well.  The only install glitch I encountered was with their install script.  They use the 'fmt' command to format some text.  Busybox doesn't include fmt from what I can see.  So, I simply used the x button three times in vi to remove the offending command and the script happily skipped past.

I did this to get the weather voiced much like [EMAIL PROTECTED]  However, I wanted better speech.  I'm not doing the speech encoding every call.  Rather, I'm ftp'ing the text files from NOAA every 30 minutes (every 2 hours is probably more realistic), massaging the text in PERL and then encoding the voice.  My dialplan simply plays the wav file.

I plan to do the same for my father in law, who has an e-mail address, but no computer.  Voice his messages and then leave them as a voicemail.  Still doping that one out, though.

Tom
