However, I have a mini-ATX Motherboard with VIA C3 (Samuel 2) CPU and CLE266 chipset (VIA 8235 Southbridge), and never suffered the slightest problem with either Astlinux or CentOS 4 (and DMA enabled). Its only problem is that the kernel sees the C3 CPU as an i686 even though it doesn't support the CMOV instruction (a sad case of stubborn refusal of cooperation between kernel team and gcc team in defining "what makes an i686"), so one has always to be careful with makefiles which probe the CPU type. If that is done via the "uname -n" command, as in Asterisk's Makefile, the fix is simple: as root, do once and for all:
mv /bin/uname /bin/real-uname echo >/bin/uname '/bin/real-uname $@ | sed -e "s/i686/i586/g"' chmod +x /bin/uname I haven't yet found a good solution for the rare cases where the probing is done with the uname() system call. Luckily, more recent VIA CPU models (such as the Eden) do support CMOV.
