Rich,

Some cable operators lock their systems by MAC filtering. Thus one a
certain MAC address in the router will let you connect. Many small
commercial products like your SMC allow you to define the MAC address
pressented to the cable modem.(sorta spoof it) Check the SMC for
settings like this. If you find one you need to make a similar setting
in Astlinux. I believe that this is easily done in the main .cfg file.
