Jerry Han,

        AstLinux only supports kernel mode pppoe as of right now (0.4).  I have 
been experimenting with both user and kernel mode PPPoE and I found that 
kernel mode pppoe works far better while DRASTICALLY reducing CPU usage. 
  User mode PPPoE (with the Soekris) on my old 6000/600kbit DSL line 
could use as much as %30CPU time.  Ridiculous!  With kernel mode PPPoE, 
that was reduced by a factor of eight or so...
