Matteo,

        Those fixes to makeimage.sh are there to [try] to support different 
Linux distros.  It tries to detect if you are using static device 
nodes/udev/devfs/etc.  Basically, if you have a /dev/loop directory, you 
should have the corresponding device nodes (1,2,3,4,5,6, etc). 
Otherwise, it will try to use /dev/loop0, /dev/loop1, etc.

        Worst case, you can hack the script to replace the LOOPD variable with 
whatever you need for your system.

        I welcome fixes to the script for other distros.  I know it works on 
CentOS...
