Darrick, Thanks for the pointer. After adding a line to dynamically include my device in the creation of fstab it would still not work. The device and parameters were correctly added to fstab but the partition was not mounted during bootup. I ended up having also explicitly mount the partition later in the /etc/rc file. That did the trick regardless of whether or not it was in fstab.
