hi, concerning DOMs:
just recently i bought a 128 MB PQI DOM (DH0128M88RF1) which is incredibly quick and inexpensive - AstLinux runs like a charm off it. it's an "industrial strength" 44-pin flash module. at least here in GER it's around 23 euros incl. postal charges. a 1 GB PQI DOM would cost around affordable 50 euros. the 1 GB (M-Systems) DOC however, is a completely different story: a 1 GB DOC (MD2203-D1024) is around 545 euros. ...before tax and without postal charges, i might add. i don't know what makes it so expensive, especially since the MTBF is as high as the MTBF for the PQI module (1000000 h). by the by... i too have installed the kd on /dev/hda2. sure.. this would make upgrading tricky... but then again: why would i want to upgrade a (smoothly) running system? ;-) cheers, Harry [...] > If you are shooting for the ultimate in long life, consider > using a "Disk on > Chip" or maybe a "Disk on Module" ...
