That's not entirely true. If you don't have a key disk, the rc.conf
file is on a ram disk. However, if you do have a key disk setup, the
symbolic link does point to the file on the key disk and is editable via
the web interface. If you are a new user, you may not be familiar with
the key disk. You do not need to set the system into read-write mode to
make changes to rc.conf. In fact with future releases, unionfs will
allow us to make several other changes without having to remount the
system in read-write mode.

I'll be the first to admit that the web interface is fairly weak.
Neither Kris or myself are web developers (I've done more web work than
Kris, but there are many more people who could do a much better job).

I'd like to see improvements to the web interface including a "first
boot" type page which could be used by a user to walk a user through the
initial steps of setting up the box (configure basic networking etc).

Any volunteers to help redo the web interface?

Look for a 0.5.0 release shortly after the first of the year. When it's
released, you'll want to upgrade to that instead of using the 0.4.x
releases.
