Chris,

Realtime is cool, but it strays way way far from the embedded track of
such projects like astlinux and askozia like mentioned below by
Darrick/John you really will kill your media in a hurry and your
bloating a streamlined system with items that really don't need to be in
there for that target device type. (If you want bigger and more features
for a bigger office or need, use a bigger box :-) and pbx in a flash or
vanilla asterisk)

That beings said though, the realtime module could be added for mysql
and also the cdr mysql module (cdr is really the only one I would
consider personally also) you don't need to use the local storage you
can have it point at a remote server (again though I see this as
somewhat pointless for embedded devices, because anything that needs
that sort of volume for changes often isn't usually targeted for an
embedded box deployment)

Can astlinux do Asterisk realtime? I was trying to read
archive
threads of the list and never saw a definitive answer..
and if so
which database client is built into the development
environment. It
looked like MySQL was purposely Excluded (sad because I
like it the
best).. but wasn't sure if any databases are included?

My understanding, as a user, is that MySQL is too large for what
is
SUPPOSED to be a small embedded system.
There seems to be a of of "feature creep" pressure on the
AstLinux
        developers to add stuff.

I too like MySQL, and use it on larger Asterisk boxes.
For me, I like AstLinux about where it is, and don't really
expect to
use many of the planned expansions for 0.7

No chance in us putting mysql in AstLinux. SQLite is possible. In
general, databases don't play well with flash media. We never added
SQLite for Asterisk because Asterisk1.4 only worked with sqlite2 (which
is hideously old and has cross-compile issues). In my opinion, the only

value for sqlite is for CDR logging/reporting. You can build Asterisk
1.6.2.0 in either trunk or the 0.7 branch and try using sqlite.

This is probably a better discussion for astlinux-devel though.

Many users probably don't read the dev list. When I do it makes my head
hurt!!

I think you all made wise decisions in building 0.6.

Too many features spoil the pot.

Build a full Asterisk box for MySQL, Realtime, and ???
