In the link I posted, there was mention of 1.97 as well.
Wonder if the 1.96.2 has the patch that fixes the issue mentioned in the 
link

I may have changed that in this version, though for the life of me I 
can't remember WHERE now!! I know I had problems with getip.krisk.org 
failing as well, off and on.

At least now we know WHY the error appears
