re: ASTlinux-1.1.0-asterisk-11.2.1 Does Not Find Broadcom Gigabit NIC on
HPt5740e Thin Client, continued.

Lonnie,

Thank you for your kind suggestions, but I'm afraid there is no joy. I even
think I already tried a sequence of commands like that, to remove the tg3
(and its dependency, libphy) and then reinstall them, before I posted here.
And I really have no idea how you deal with drivers in Linux

In this case here is what you get when you reinstall the tg3:

# modprobe -r tg3
# modprobe tg3
tg3.c:v3.110 (April 9, 2010)
tg3 0000:04:00.0: PCI INT A -> GSI 17 (level, low) -> IRQ 17
tg3 mdio bus: probed
tg3 0000:04:00.0: No PHY devices
tg3 0000:04:00.0: Problem fetching invariants of chip, aborting
tg3 0000:04:00.0: PCI INT A disabled
#

What do the last 3 lines of the above mean?

Broadcom has a Linux driver ("tg3") for the BCM57780 posted on its website;
could be a later version, maybe worth a try? May even come with
instructions. Probably should be a last resort. Would I have to recompile
AST?

Thank you all for your help.
