Hi Robin,

Your analysis is spot on, given that this BCM57780 NIC has general issues with 
Linux.  Compiling the tg3 driver from source seems like a possible solution, 
feel free to give it a try.

In AstLinux we compile the latest NIC drivers for the Intel e1000, e1000e, and 
Realtek r8168 (packages by the same name), you can use those as a template.

Taking a step back, are these HPt5740e Thin Client's inexpensive ?  How does it 
compare to this ?
