Hi,

Taking a step back, what is your goal ?

1) Run the AstLinux distro under centos 5.8 ?
2) Develop and build your own custom AstLinux image ?

If the answer is #1, then you need a hosted Virtual Machine, such as VMware or 
VirtualBox not CentOS.

Here is some relevant info...

http://doc.astlinux.org/userdoc:tt_virtualbox

Note that both AstLinux and CentOS run upon a generic x86 platform, either a 
generic x86 PC or x86 Virtual Machine.
