I think he is talking about deleting his messages from www.gmail.com not a
folder in Outlook.

The only way I have ever figured out how to delete those messages is to do
it as he first said, a hundred at a time.

Even though it can be set to delete messages from the server in Outlook 2010
for the Gmail account, it still leaves the messages on the Gmail server.

I agree with the suggestion below, with one change. I would select all
(Control A) then, press Shift and Delete. By doing a Shift Delete, this will
eliminate all of the messages from going into your delete box. The messages
are totally gone.
