I suggest you download the latest version compatible with your Emacs (14.0.9) from ELPA (note that AUCTeX is available only from ELPA, and not MELPA): https://elpa.gnu.org/packages/auctex-14.0.9.tar.lz and run `package-install-file' on that file.
