I have heard that not everybody prefers Poedit. Some people really prefer
text editors.
Section 8 of this document descibes some editors for .po files, including
an emacs mode.
So perhaps you might like the emacs as a text editor with just a little
added intelligence about the .po format, for navigating among the messages.
