Re: number of blind people who have adopted Android and/or own an Android
OK, so sooner or later somebody's going to come up with a VI distro of Android (Blindroid? Blandroid?) which does all the work for people, otherwise most users have to start out with a fairly non-trivial amount of work ahead of them out of the box which, at least for now, is definitely not comparable with a Windows install IMO.
You're right, Firefox for Android is excellent, but still the exception to the rule at the moment. I understand that a few travel apps are also turning out to be very accessible on Android owing to significant commitment. So it's not all doom and gloom.
