Hi:

CoffeeMud will work fine with OpenJDK; that's how I've always ran it.  Note that you need to modify the setup shell scripts slightly, as Ubuntu doesn't keep javac in the standard place.  But once you make that 2 line change, everything should work OK. The only other fiddly bit is getting drivers for PostgreSQL or MySQL or whatever database driver you want to use installed and working.  But google will help you.  Don't bother running CoffeeMud with the flat file database, as it introduces notable lags in several places, the most noticeable being when using socials.
