Well that did it Alex, thanks for pointing me in the right direction. I believe it was the same issue. I updated adobe just to see if that would do any good, but still no sound, so it was the volume.
Very nice discovery, I've always wondered what that "seak slider" thingy was for, as clicking on it did no good. It's also great to be able to rewind youtube clips, (I've wanted to do this for ages, especially when watching game videos, but no luck).
I'll add that youtube faq to my favourites, though I do kick myself for not seeing it before.
