Funny they haven't digitized talechaser's song, though I do sympathize, I confess I can't read actual fiction with a synth, I just find it irritates me due to the lack of human pauses, especially in dialogue and atmosphere.
I read Shadowmarch last year. generally the series was good, however I rather felt the seires was a little odd pacing and structure wise, given that the first book was lots of setup, the second was just plane awesome and dark and tremendously gripping, then things taled back in the third so the fourth could be a major major conclusion with one of the most insane climaxes ever!
I found this a little odd, sinse you'd usually expect a series (as with otherland and memory sorrow and thorn), to increase in pacing as it goes on, at least from an author like Tad Williams who tends to be a start slow and build up sort of writer.
I also admit I found it a little harder to get on with the two principle characters, albeit they defi
nitely changed over the series, rather different from Simon who was always likeable even if there were moments I wanted to bang he and miriamelle's heads together, .
Actually that's one thing I loved in Memory sorrow and thorn, and again with Sam and Orlando in Otherland, that Tad williams managed to write teenaged characters who were very flawed, very much teenagers but basically decent people you wanted to see succeed.
I felt this with kinitin in Shadowmarch, but Berik and Briony really did grate at times.
