It's not because they didn't get every cent, kickstarter doesn't work like that. If you don't reach 100% of the goal, you don't get a penny. So of the £8000 pledged, they received £0.
It was going to cost much more to make than the kickstarter would have earned, and they had other investors interested. But from the sounds of it their other investors used the kickstarter as a barometer, and would not give them any funding as they viewed the kickstarter fail as evidence that there was insufficient demand for audio games for it to be a profitable investment.
