Here is an idea:
If I remember correctly, you mentioned that the console have a SD card slot. Maybe you can make a system where the developers can incrypt their games, so people can buy the games from an online store digitally, copy the games to the SD card and then play them on the console?
More and more games are soled as DLC only, which means people from more countries can buy the games and enjoy them. I think that's the way to go.
Regarding copyright, fewer people will try to crack and hack the games, since not many people play audiogames anyway. So maybe there is no need for putting that much work into protection, but maybe make ways where the developers can make their own protection if they wants to.
Now I'm not a developer, but it would be interesting to hear what language is simular to the language the games have to be written in. I dream about a language which is so easy to learn so I can learn it, but I don't think I'll ev
er be able to learn any programming language. Lol.
