Re: Android tablet versus Kindle Fire

Hello,

While I haven't used Fire OS, I can tell you that it does not contain the Google Play Store. If you want access to millions of apps, I'd get a tablet running stock or near stock Android. The Kindle Fire tablets are based off Android, but Amazon has customized them and removed all Google Services. Amazon's screen reader sounds kind of interesting though. Go listen to the recent main menu podcast which demos the Kindle Fire. If you don't mind being locked into Amazon's ecosystem, the $50 fire tablet might work. Of course, I hear you can install the play store onto the Fire tablet, so you might not care. I'm tempted to buy one of these tablets just to see what it's all about.
