To burn a working ISO I used a program called CD burner XP (which actually works on modern Windows as well and is still maintained). Another option may be to use Rufus to put the ISO on a USB drive.
One thing to consider before you jump in head first into XP is that you should make sure you can find drivers for all your hardware (XP isn't as smart as 7 when it comes to this, so you may not have sound or networking at first for example). If this is your only computer, then you'll want to have your drivers ready on another CD or a flash drive.
