Couldn't help overhearing. Frandum is quest-based, but it was not always the case: 15 years ago it was "grind for a while / do a quest / grind again", and there were only 40 quests. The logic was changed so that you get rewarded and progress for every quest item you finish, and you are rewarded only once (hence no grinding). The original quests were remodelled into a long-term mystery-based storyline. This could explain why it does not feel as organic as MUDs designed specifically to tell a story. Frandum tells hundreds of small stories that take part in its consistent history, economics and politics. It is to be noted that quests were revamped and reorganized in December so that every time a NPC asks something of you, a quest will start with steps to mark progression as you try to complete the task. But going further would be another kind of project: who knows? The year has just started...
