Re: Grants for Accessibility Development

Audio only games are pretty rare in mainstream circles, PapaSangre being one and it did [rather well], so i'm not sure if its solely a marketting or quality issue perse. Generally you don't see any discussion of audio games on industry sites like Gamasutra, Tigsource, itch.io, or any mainstream channels/jams/etc. either. There was a thread [here] awhile ago that asked where to advertise audiogames, and the suggestions were largely for accessible gaming sites only, but why is that?

People around here regularly tap into the mainstream all the time wanting to play games like GTA V, Telltale Games, Southpark, etc. so its not like they aren't aware of whats out there. Yet Audiogames are being advertised through special channels, so are audio games being marketted for everyone or just for accessibility? The point is that while mains tream games are considered inaccessible (and thats changing), in a weird way audiogames seem to be the reverse, percieved as being meant only for accessibility.

Integrating accessibility also may encourage more prominent major developers for sighted games to make some accomidations for accessibility if they know that blind players are interested in playing...

The premise is the same, by pushing more high quality original audiogames into the mainstream towards a wider audience more prominent developers may create more of them knowing that sighted players are interested in playing. Either approach isn't mutually exclusive, I'm not suggesting one over the other, we can do both and the end result would be both more accessible sighted games and a greater variety of audiogames.
